Whisply offers Encrypted File Transfer

Whisply Release and Boxcryptor Update – Boxcryptor gets Help

Our favorite cloud-protector Boxcryptor gets help from a little friend: Whisply from now on supports Boxcryptor in protecting your data. While Boxcryptor takes care of the security of your cloud, Whisply comes to the rescue when you want to share files. To celebrate this new friendship, we boosted Boxcryptor’s cloud fortress a little. Our update for Windows and Mac OS X to versions 2.3 brings many new and practical features, as well as Whisply integration.

The innovative, web-based file transfer service allows you to send files secured with AES-256 end-to-end encryption via Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. No software download is necessary, instead, files will be sent from your browser. You can even share files with friends or colleagues who do not use the cloud. Since everything works better when you have a partner, we integrated Whisply in Boxcryptor, so you can comfortably send files directly out of your Boxcryptor drive.

How Whisply Works

Go to the whisp.ly website and upload the file you want to send. Pick the cloud service with which you want to process the transfer: Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. Now you can choose, whether you want to transfer the encrypted file via plain link, or if you want to add additional password or PIN protection.

If you have a Boxcryptor account and you want to transfer a file, you do not have to take the detour via the Whisply website. Instead, you can start Whisply in the Boxcryptor drive with right click on a file.

Having a Boxcryptor account is beneficial for the use of Whisply. With a free account you can transfer as many files as you want. With a Boxcryptor Unlimited Personal or Business licence you can determine how long a download link should be available. Since security is our main objective, PIN- and password protection is available for everyone, no matter if you use Whisply without Boxcryptor, with a free account or with a license.

Advantages of Whisply – Why we Initiated this File Transfer Service

Encrypted communication is a big topic right now. The messenger service WhatsApp encrypts all chats by default by now and email programs using end-to-end encryption, such as ProtonMail, are very popular. The problem with these systems is the precondition that both parties, the sender and the receiver, use the same means of communication.

Sending an encrypted WhatsApp text to a Threema user is not possible. An encrypted email to a Gmail user either has to be protected by password, or the encryption keys have to be exchanged. With Boxcryptor, likewise, we wanted to get rid of the technical restriction that secure data exchange is only possible between Boxcryptor users. We reached that goal with Whisply – ‘powered by Boxcryptor’.

The beauty of Whisply is: You can send securely encrypted files to every person, with the only restriction that the receiver has an internet connection. PIN and password protection is optional and easily added, but no requirement. Treat yourself to flawless protection with Boxcryptor and Whisply, for your communication, your thoughts, your pictures and your life are nobody’s business, but yours.

Boxcryptor Update and Whisply Integration

Our Boxcryptor update for Windows and Mac OS X brings you many new practical features and makes the use of Boxcryptor even more intuitive. Whisply is integrated into the software, signing in is much faster and teamwork is more convenient, since you do not need an internet connection for working in shared folders, anymore.

New Features in Boxcryptor for Windows v2.3

An exclusive improvement for Windows are sync icons of the providers. They indicate in your Boxcryptor drive, whether a file is being synced at the moment, if it is already synced, or if there are problems with synchronization. In short:

  • Whisply integration
  • Faster sign in
  • Easier team work in shared folders
  • Sync status of the provider is indicated through icons

New Features in Boxcryptor for Mac OS X v2.3

Encrypted files on Mac OS X are no longer marked with a green tag, but with icons. Boxcryptor supports Apple’s new operating system (experimental), and due to a change of the home drive from now on every user on a Mac can now use Boxcryptor, not just one. In short:

  • Whisply integration
  • Faster sign in
  • Easier team work in shared folders
  • macOS 10.12 Sierra support (experimental)
  • Icons mark files as encrypted
  • Boxcryptor can be used by every user on a Mac, not just by one user

Note: The v2.3.x versions will be the last Boxcryptor versions that support Windows XP & Vista, and Mac OS X 10.7 & 10.8. As these operating systems are not officially supported by Apple and Microsoft, anymore, the Boxcryptor-Team recommends users of those unsafe operating systems to upgrade to a newer version.

Have fun with our update! Are you a Boxcryptor user, but you do not know Whisply, yet? Why don’t you just give it a try! Thanks to Whisply, you never have to send an unencrypted, unprotected file again.
