Dropbox Enables Data Storage in Germany

Dropbox Opens first German Office and Enables Data Storage in Germany

Dropbox opens its first German office in Hamburg and reacts on the rising demand of European customers. The Hamburg office will be in charge of the – according to Dropbox – 30 million customers in the German-speaking region.

But there is more good news for Dropbox business customers worldwide: The cloud provider announced to offer data storage on German servers in the near future. This is relevant for all customers that do not want to store their data in the US, or cannot store it there for legal reasons.

Data storage on Amazon servers in Germany

Starting with the third quarter of 2016, the data of business customers can be stored on Amazon servers in Frankfurt am Main. Hence, Dropbox follows the example of other big cloud providers. Box introduced “Box Zones” this year to allow their customers to choose their preferred region for storage. Amazon – whose services Dropbox will be using – offers the same with its cloud storage S3.

Companies with requirements to store their sensitive data in regions with high data privacy laws will be in good hands at Dropbox. Collaboration in teams works flawlessly at the market leader of synchronization. Data security (the physical safety of your data on their servers) is guaranteed at such a high standard that the average company could not reach by themselves. According to Dropbox, they list more than 4000 business customers in the German-speaking region.

If you want to enhance data privacy or have to comply with internal or external regulations, you can combine Dropbox with our encryption solution Boxcryptor. Your data will be encrypted with zero knowledge standard, before you synchronize them to Dropbox.

Data security and data privacy – Boxcryptor is official Dropbox technology partner

As of late, Dropbox recommends Boxcryptor officially as a premium technology partner. With the combination of Dropbox and Boxcryptor your data is encrypted before it reaches the cloud. Data espionage and data breaches become near impossible. Nobody at Dropbox and Boxcryptor ever sees your data in unencrypted mode. Passing it on to authorities would also only be possible in encrypted mode. Because of our zero knowledge technology, all your information is encrypted before it reaches our servers. Your password that protects this information is securely hashed, so it is not available to us,either. Better data privacy in the cloud is not possible.

Contact our sales team (sales@boxcryptor.com) if you want to find out more about our encryption solution.

In our 30-day-trial for the company package you can get to know our product better. We assist you at every step of setting up Boxcryptor, and help your company to use the cloud in the most secure and efficient way.
