Boxcryptor Product News in July 2019 – Better, Faster, Newer

The world is constantly changing at a fast pace, this is a matter of fact. The world of information technology is changing at an even faster rate. Whether it is improvements on one front or the emergence of a security flaw, on another front. Keeping up with all developments can be hard, yet it is extremely important – especially for the development of software in such a fast-changing environment.

Regular updates are important for every software to keep up with the change of the environment the software “lives” in.

We at Boxcryptor, of course need to adapt to changes in the environment of our software, too. Therefore, we inform you on a regular basis about the updates of, and the related changes made to our software, to keep you up-to-date, as well. In the following, the most important new features and changes to our software, from the first half of 2019, are presented for each platform individually, in no specific order.

What’s New in Boxcryptor for macOS?

Whenever Apple launches a new operating system (OS), or beta thereof, our users are very quick in asking for a Boxcryptor version that is supporting the new OS. Logically, everyone wants to access their encrypted files after the OS has been changed. And there is good news for everyone already testing, or planning to update to the latest macOS 10.15 (Catalina).

The OS is currently in a beta testing phase and is expected to be released in autumn of 2019 – so usually with Apple this should be in September or October. Boxcryptor will support macOS Catalina soon and will be ready for the new OS when it is officially launched.

In other Boxcryptor for macOS news, there are added features and improvements in our software:
Today, we are very happy to be able to say that Boxcryptor is now available in three more languages. Our Italian, French and Spanish users are now able to use Boxcryptor on macOS in their native language – we say “fantastico”, “magnifique” and “fenomenal”.

Additionally, we added auto detection for SharePoint Online and SharePoint 2019, and now support OneDrive on-demand files in Boxcryptor for macOS.

What’s New in Boxcryptor for iOS?

Of course, we did not only work on Boxcryptor for macOS, but also worked on improving our software for our users, using Boxcryptor on their iPhone or iPad. Because what’s more important than being able to access all your files everywhere you are? Right, this convenience for our users is worth the necessary development efforts, big time.

Our Italian, French and Spanish users can be even more happy. Because they can now also access Boxcryptor on their iOS device in their native language – that is a consistent user experience, all the way.

Furthermore, we improved the user experience on iOS by improving the Files app integration, the integration of different providers and the support of password managers. Overall, this makes securely encrypting your files on iOS much more comfortable.

And of course, Boxcryptor will soon support iOS 13. So, everyone who is keen on being up-to-date can be up-to-date without sacrificing security.

Furthermore, we added a new supported cloud provider to our iOS app: Welcome to the Boxcryptor world, Wasabi. Our iOS users are now able to include Wasabi to their encrypted storage locations.

What’s New in Boxcryptor for Windows?

You are not a macOS or iOS user? Don't worry! Certainly, our Windows developers did not sleep on bringing you updates for a better use of Boxcryptor on Windows, either.

Boxcryptor now fully supports the latest Windows 10 update, as well as an auto detection for SharePoint Online and SharePoint 2019. Additionally, there was a new provider added to the list of providers being automatically detected as storage location by Boxcryptor for Windows. pCloud will now be automatically listed by Boxcryptor as possible storage location within your Boxcryptor drive. So pCloud crowd, get ready to encrypt your data.

Performance Improvements of Boxcryptor for Windows

Like every software, we regularly release updates to fix bugs and improve the performance of the software. And on Windows, we achieved an improvement in performance of up to 100% in certain benchmarks – that is an improvement to be proud of, isn’t it?

What’s New in Boxcryptor for Android?

Perhaps the biggest change and improvement comes with our brand new Boxcryptor for Android app. Our Android users can look forward to a series of improvements and new features.

Firstly, the Boxcryptor for Android app fully supports the latest Android 9 “Pie” OS. And it comes in a fantastic new look. It has a modern, new user interface and provides an overall improved speed, upload and download time, and user experience. Android users can now access their encrypted files in the brand-new grid view.

This grid view is even better for browsing through pictures, since the new Boxcryptor app also provides thumbnails for your downloaded and uploaded encrypted pictures. Now you can find the picture you are looking for faster in Boxcryptor.

The latest version is more reliable overall and of course includes the latest bugfixes. Thus, the overall performance elevates our Android app to new levels. Never has accessing and creating encrypted files and pictures on an Android device looked so good and has been so convenient and fast.

And in the meantime, we also added a new cloud provider to the list of supported providers in the Android app. Wasabi is now available as a storage location.
